Saint Mary’s Introduces New Robotic-Assisted Surgical System
February 28, 2025

Saint Mary’s Regional Health System is excited to introduce the da Vinci Xi Surgical Robot, bringing robotic-assisted surgery to the River Valley. This addition expands surgical options for patients, offering a minimally invasive approach to various procedures with benefits such as smaller incisions, greater precision, and faster recovery times.
The da Vinci Xi allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced control. Using a high-definition, 3D camera and robotic-assisted instruments, the system translates the surgeon’s hand movements into precise surgical actions. This means less blood loss, reduced risk of complications, and shorter hospital stays for many patients.
Expanding Surgical Options in the River Valley
The da Vinci Xi will be used for a range of procedures, including general surgeries such as hernia repair, gallbladder and appendix removal, and colon resection. It will also be utilized for gynecological procedures like hysterectomy.
“This technology is an important step forward for Saint Mary’s,” said Casey Willis, CEO. “It allows us to offer minimally invasive options for more patients, helping them heal faster and return to their daily lives sooner—all while receiving care close to home.”
Experience the Future of Surgery – You’re Invited!
Saint Mary’s Regional Health System is hosting a community “Meet the Robot” event where you can see the da Vinci Xi in action, learn how it’s improving surgical care, and meet the team using this advanced technology.
The event will take place on Thursday, March 13, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Outpatient Services, located at 1808 West Main Street in Russellville.
The event is open to all, with a hands-on opportunity to interact with the system and learn how robotic-assisted surgery is enhancing care at Saint Mary’s.
The introduction of the da Vinci Xi comes at a special time as Saint Mary’s celebrates 100 years of serving the River Valley. This milestone is a reflection of the hospital’s continued commitment to innovation and providing high-quality care close to home.
