Saint Mary’s ICU Receives DAISY Team Award for Outstanding Compassionate Care

Saint Mary’s Regional Health System is proud to recognize the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as the recipient of our very first DAISY Team Award. This prestigious honor was awarded in recognition of the exceptional care and unwavering compassion shown to a patient and her family during a challenging and emotional time. 

The DAISY Team Award, an extension of the internationally recognized DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, celebrates teams of nurses and healthcare professionals who demonstrate exemplary collaboration, compassion and dedication to patient care. This inaugural recognition was prompted by a heartfelt nomination submitted by the family of a recent ICU patient. 

The family shared their profound gratitude for the ICU staff, stating: 

“They were all very kind and compassionate, not only to her needs but to ours as a family during a very trying and difficult time. They made sure to keep us updated on her status and were always willing and eager to answer any questions we had. When we had to make the difficult decision to transition over to comfort care, they answered all our questions, gave us the facts and recommendations they could and showed genuine love and support.” 

The nomination highlights the outstanding teamwork of the entire ICU unit, with the family noting that every team member contributed to their positive experience. They added, “As an employee myself, I know that a lot of times the good never gets recognized, and we wanted to take the time to say that our time at the hospital was amazing.” 

Lauryn Gore, ICU Director, expressed her pride in the team, saying: “This recognition is a testament to the dedication, empathy and collaboration of our ICU staff. Providing exceptional care during both joyful and difficult times is at the heart of what we do, and I’m incredibly proud of our team for making such a meaningful impact on this family.” 

The DAISY Award program is part of Saint Mary’s dedication to recognizing the extraordinary contributions of nurses and care teams. This recognition celebrates not only the skills of our ICU team but their ability to offer comfort, understanding and support to both patients and their loved ones.
