Celebrating Compassion: Karrie Stevens, RN, Honored with DAISY Award
August 8, 2024
At Saint Mary’s Regional Health System, we believe that exceptional care extends beyond medical expertise—it’s also about the compassion and dedication our nurses bring to their patients and their families. We are pleased to spotlight Karrie Stevens, RN, who has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award.
Karrie’s journey to this recognition is a testament to her remarkable ability to provide not just clinical care, but comfort during the most challenging times. Recently, Karrie was nominated for the DAISY Award by a family who were deeply touched by her compassion and support during their loved ones’ time in our ICU.
The patient's daughter shared, “Karrie was a wonderful nurse who cared for my father in the ICU. Her compassion and loving nature didn’t just stop with him—she became my mother’s rock during one of the most painful times in our lives. For the warmth she showed my dad and the love she gave my mom, we will be forever grateful.”
The patient's wife also expressed her gratitude, saying, “Karrie was more than just his caregiver—she was a beacon of compassion and care for our entire family. She spoke to James as if he could hear her, held his hand, and made sure we understood everything that was happening. We have never experienced such a level of compassion and attention.”
In a special ceremony, we were able to surprise Karrie with this well-deserved award, bringing together her family and the individuals who nominated her. The emotional moment was a true celebration of the impact she has had on the lives of those she cares for.
DAISY Award honorees are chosen through a thoughtful process that ensures fairness and recognizes extraordinary care. A committee at Saint Mary’s reads through all the nominations anonymously and rates each one based on a set of criteria, including clinical care, compassion and how well the nominee models our core values.
