iComputerized Tomography or CT Scan is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat a host of medical conditions. CT Scanning involves specialized x-tray equipment with powerful computers to produce multiple images or pictures of the inside of the body. CT Scans provide greater clarity than regular x-rays.
CT (Computed Tomography) scans create detailed, 3D images of cross-sections of the body, helping physicians diagnose conditions such as strokes, hemorrhages, tumors, and internal injuries. These scans can distinguish between different types of tissue—including bone, blood, fat, and fluid—and help determine if a growth is solid or cystic, as well as identify abnormalities in organ size and shape.
During a CT scan, you will lie still on a table that slowly moves through the center of a large X-ray machine, capturing detailed images. The procedure is quick, painless, and non-invasive. In some cases, IV or oral contrast is used to enhance visibility for a clearer diagnosis.
Think of CT scan results like a loaf of sliced bread—your physician can examine each individual “slice” or compile them into a detailed 3D image for a comprehensive view.
At Saint Mary’s, we offer CT scans for the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities. Our Hi-Speed CT technology enhances image quality while reducing radiation exposure and exam time.
