A Saint Mary's Birth Story: Megan and Baby Cole
We love hearing from our patients!
This is Megan and Cole’s Birth Story:
"I’ve always had excellent prenatal care from Dr. David Nelson and very easy deliveries. I’ve had 3 children with planned inductions, epidurals, and baby arriving in under 10 mins.
Then came baby #4. I woke my husband up around midnight and we called the hospital just to check in. The nurse who answered, Abby, is my new hero. She explained exactly why I should come on in, even if it meant waking someone up to come sit with my 3 sleeping kids in the middle of the night, which I was super hesitant to do.
So, at 1:15am we left for Saint Mary's after my parents got to our house. We got checked in super-fast and a nurse, Brea, checked me asap. Brea is my other new hero because turns out I was already an 8. Also at this time, I looked over at Chad and he’s green. He never gets sick but right at this moment we realize he definitely had a stomach bug. The sweet nurses began helping him but couldn’t give him meds without admitting him, and there was no time for that, or he’d miss Cole’s birth. In that moment I realized that I was about to deliver a baby with not even time to take a Tylenol. There was not enough time for any type of pain medication to kick in before baby came. Simultaneously I realized I was about to do this while my husband was terribly ill.
My parents were with our kids and his were 30 mins away. There was no time to even call a friend at this point. No one would be able to make it in time. My doctor was in Colorado and his sweet PA was on a cruise.
I said a little prayer and as soon as I finished, Dr. Chatterjee walked in. She got to the hospital in under 10 mins, in the middle of the night, after just landing back in the US from vacation. Bless her sweet sweet soul. I cannot tell you what it meant to me to see a familiar face, someone I knew and trusted, in that moment.
She was so calm and reassuring. I remember her saying, “Megan you can do this. It’s going to be absolutely fine. We’re going to take care of Chad. I’m going to guide you through this. We are all here for you both. You can hold our hands; you can focus on my voice, and you will do great. I know it. It won’t take long.” She explained to me what was about to happen and what I would need to do. She was the best and such a God-send in that very scary moment.
The nurses all helped us so much. They helped me breath, they kept me cool, and tended to Chad so he could watch the birth of his son. They even took pictures for us. Chad held my hand as much as he could, bless his heart.
By 2:03am I was holding my sweet sweet baby, all of 45 mins after we left our house to drive to the hospital.
We will forever be so grateful and thankful for the St Mary’s team that helped us that Sunday night. Their advice, support, and encouragement made all the difference. Dr. Chatterjee and our nurses went above and beyond for us and were truly a blessing to our family.
We are just so very thankful for them!! They will always be so special to us!"
